The BEST way to make Quinoa…what the instructions leave out.

There are two little secrets to cooking Quinoa to make it more flavorful…something that I have not seen on the cooking instructions. The first secret: You have to toast it. Toasting it brings out a more nutty flavor; making it even more delicious.  The second secret: Use chicken or vegetable broth instead of water.  So, let’s get started.

Start by heating up a skillet with 1 Tbsp of extra virgin olive oil on med/high heat.DSC_1323

Add 1 Cup of Quinoa and stir; making sure to cover the grains with the oil. DSC_1327

Stir occasionally and after about 3-5 minutes, the quinoa will start to pop.DSC_1329

Stir constantly now for about 1 minute.  You will notice the quinoa starts to brown slightly and it will be very fragrant.  DSC_1330

Now add 2 Cups of broth (low sodium or homemade), stir, turn the heat down to just above simmer, cover and let cook for 20 minutes.  quinoa 2

After 20 minutes, uncover, fluff and enjoy!
